Leveraging PEAR for Peer Review and Group Assessment to Reduce Instructor Workload in Medium-to-Large Classes

Date: Tuesday, August 13, 2024 | 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Facilitators: Owen Wooding (Open Learning and Educational Support - OpenEd) & Rich Couto (Open Learning and Educational Support - OpenEd)

Description: Would you like to add more opportunities for active learning and help your students improve their critical thinking skills through peer review? Or perhaps you are looking to add more group work to your course but are struggling with how to fairly assess students’ contributions within their groups? Both assessment strategies are great, however the task of implementing them into your assessment design can seem daunting, especially in larger classes. Luckily, UofG’s Peer Evaluation, Assessment, and Review tool (PEAR) provides avenues to facilitate either of these options that scale with class.

Attendees of this session will be able to:

  • Comprehend the value and benefits of peer review and group assessment.
  • Identify areas where peer review or group assessment may enhance assessment.

  • Create a peer review or group assessment in a PEAR project.

  • Connect a PEAR project with a CourseLink course site.

  • Import students and groups into PEAR from CourseLink.

  • Export grades from PEAR to CourseLink.
