Instructional Inclusivity Community of Practice

The Instructional Inclusivity Community of Practice

Guided by the University’s Inclusion Framework, our Instructional Inclusivity Community of Practice (IICoP) is a meeting place for like-minded individuals who are working to further our campus community’s engagement with Instructional Inclusivity (inclusive teaching, inclusive education practices, and inclusive pedagogies, broadly construed).

  • The IICoP is open to anyone in/with instructional capacities at the University of Guelph who is interested in and/or working toward continuously improving inclusive, diverse, and accessible approaches in their instructional practices, strategies, and/or curriculum design. During the time we spend together in each meeting of the IICoP, we hope to provide practitioners with a useful point of focus on discussing and sharing knowledge and instructional strategies on a variety of aspects related to inclusivity, such as: gender, sex, and sexuality; indigenous ways of knowing, teaching, and learning; English as an additional language of instruction for learners; mental health and well-being; internationality; intersectionality; etc.
  • The IICOP is currently paused. If you are interested in joining a new offering of this COP, or for more information, please contact the Office of Teaching and Learning.

What is a community of practice (CoP)?

A community of practice (CoP) is a group of people who "share a passion for something they know how to do and who interact regularly to learn how to do it better" (Wenger, 2006). CoPs are social and encourage people to share their knowledge, skills, ideas, questions and expertise. They can be informal or formal, can have changing membership, and can meet on different schedules.

The key purpose of the CoP is to provide an opportunity for people to share their expertise, experiences and curiosity about a topic and to learn together.
