OTL to host Becoming a SoTL Scholar Book Club for faculty and instructional staff.
Join Educational Developers from the Office of Teaching and Learning for a virtual Book Club discussing Becoming a SoTL Scholar (Miller-Young & Chick, Eds., 2024) during Summer 2025. This book explores the journey of becoming a scholar in the field of the SoTL, a now well-established discipline that investigates teaching and learning. It examines SoTL’s unique position outside traditional disciplines and provides guidance on navigating this space.
The book offers practical advice, inspiring narratives, and strategies for building credibility, expertise, and community within SoTL. It addresses entry points for faculty, early-career scholars, and students, as well as ways mid- and late-career scholars can sustain meaningful engagement and contribute to the field.
During each meeting, book club members will take part in a facilitated discussion of chapters in the book and discuss their thoughts, questions or share experiences. The book club is open to all University of Guelph faculty, staff and instructors (including teaching assistants and sessionals).
Register below for the Becoming a SoTL Scholar Book Club by June 11, 2025. Space is limited.
