OTL Mandate Feedback: Focus Group (virtual)

The Office of Teaching and Learning is updating its mandate to further serve the University of Guelph, University of Guelph-Humber, and Ridgetown Campus communities. You are warmly invited to contribute your perspective on what OTL should be doing now and into the future to support, lead, partner and innovate in teaching and learning. This focus group is an opportunity to gather virtually, in community, to share your perspectives and feedback on OTL's draft mandate. The draft mandate and the focus group prompts will be shared with participants two days ahead of the focus group.

AI can do what? The implications of autonomous AI in teaching and learning (a demonstration and discussion)

Artificial intelligence is rapidly evolving beyond tools that answer questions or generate essays. With the rise of autonomous AI (also known as agentic AI), students now have access to systems that can act on their behalf, including navigating online platforms (such as CourseLink), completing learning and assessment tasks, and making decisions. This session will showcase the capabilities of these tools in teaching and learning contexts, highlighting both their potential impact on student learning and the challenges they present for teaching and assessment.

Join the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) and FeedbackFruits for an inspiring session on Team-Based Learning (TBL) with guest speaker Dr. Michelle Steinhilb, Professor of Genetics, Biotechnology, and Neuroscience at Central Michigan University (CMU). She’ll share her experience implementing TBL in live courses, focusing on the Individual and Team Readiness Assurance Tests (iRAT/tRAT) and their role in preparing students for collaborative, in-class problem-solving.

What Can AI Do With Your Assessment? (and what to do next)

Generative AI tools are increasingly capable of producing student-like responses to course assignments. But what does that mean for your teaching and assessment practices? In this interactive session, you’ll test one or more of your own course assessments in different AI tools to see what students might be able to generate. Together, we’ll reflect on what we find, discuss the limitations and strengths of AI-generated work, and explore practical next steps—whether you’re mid-semester and unable to change an assignment, or looking ahead to redesign for future terms.
